Certified Organic by NOFA-NY, LLC

This season we will raise 500 Cornish Cross meat birds. We feed them only certified organic grains from Lakeview Organic Grain. This is grown without chemical fertilizers or pesticides and does not contain GMOs (genetically modified organisms). Sustainable grain production leads to a premium price for grains and, in turn, our chicken. We know it is worth it for the health of the birds, the earth and the humans we feed.

How we grow a healthy chicken

Baby chicks arrive by parcel post when they are two days old, from Neppa Hatchery.

2 Day old Chicks

We keep the chicks warm, safe and well fed in our brooder.

At 3 weeks old, the birds are taken out into the pasture and placed inside "chicken tractors". These are movable cages that keep predators away and provide shade and weather protection for the birds.

Each day the chicken tractors are moved, by hand, to a new fresh patch of grass. Checking the birds, twice daily, keeps grain and water always available. Much of the birds diet consists of grasses and insects with this pasture method. Lots of healthy omega threes are absorbed by the birds eating grass. Good for them and good for us!

“When the birds reach full size, at about eight weeks, we respectfully butcher and package them here on the farm ourselves.

We take great care to personally handle every step of the process from chicks to finished birds.
